The working and living conditions of agricultural workers are far from optimal. Their labour precariousness is not accidental; rather, it is a structural feature of the sector. This is why those willing to work in agriculture are mostly immigrants: either because they have no alternatives or because they come as seasonal workers, hoping to earn money as quickly as possible. This policy brief identifies the factors that help explain these working and living conditions and offers a set of policy recommendations at the EU, national, regional and local levels.
